I cannot WAIT to see Loserville !!!

(Back – (Writers) Elliot Davis and James Bourne : Left to right- Robbie Boyle (Huey), Aaron Sidwell (Michael Dork), Eliza Bennett (Holly), Gareth Gates (Eddie) and Chris Hardman (Francis)

THE WRITERS

Wow! I am delighted that the brand new musical “Loserville” by James Bourne (and Elliot Davis) seems to have opened in Leeds with a ‘bang’ ! I have to say that I expected no less. James Bourne is extremely talented and what many people fail to realise, is the fact that he has written songs for successful artists and bands such as : McFly,  and co-wrote the song “Forever is over” for “The Saturdays” it reached number 2 in the charts in 2009 !

Loserville takes its original inspiration from co-creator Bourne’s band (Son of Dork) first album ‘Welcome to Loserville’ and unlike the current trend of Jukebox musicals that have infiltrated the theatrical landscape, Bourne and Davis created a host of new songs in the style of the original album to compliment the small handful of tracks that did make the show.

After a month of rehearsals, the show opened at the West Yorkshire Playhouse in Leeds with a large bang ; receiving a standing ovation after the very first performance! From what I can gather the show strongly follows a GEEK VS. JOCKS story-line making it far more entertaining!

Set way back in 1971 computers were not what they are now, email was yet to be invented. Michael Dork (Eastenders’ Aaron Sidwell) believes that computers are the future. Being a MAJOR computer geek he hopes that he has created something that could change the world of technology forever !

The new girl in school is Holly (Eliza Hope Bennett) wants to be the first woman in space, also fitting potentially into the geek category. Will she ever want Michael??

Shallow, self-obsessed Eddie who is THE SCHOOL JOCK and bully (played by Gareth Gates) wants a fast ride to the top and doesn’t care who gets trampled along the way!! Leia just wants Eddie!!! Michael’s friends are all set to change history, fashion and dating – in no particular order, but just as soon as possible!

Promotion for the show

LOOSE WOMEN

Last week, Gareth Gates appeared on Loose Women on Tuesday 19th June to promote the show ; he stated :

“Yeah it’s fun I’m very nervous about my speech anyway yeah the show’s great” and mentioned that the show was playing in Leeds for 4 weeks now so it’s a brand new musical so for any actor it’s a great thing to be involved in erm and for the first time I’m a baddie , booo! My roles Eddie and he’s the bully at school”

James Bourne (one of the shows’ producers and formally from Busted and Son of Dork) tweeted to show his support for Gareth!

FANTINE : A Poem

The beautiful girl with curls of sunshine yellow

Endured a broken heart as his feelings mellowed

For Tholomyes it was a “passing affair”

He abandoned Fantine,  she was overwhelmed with despair

That man had become the love of her life

His cruel words pierced her like a knife

She once had money, she once had grace

She hung her head, ashamed and felt disgraced

Left with child, without a penny

He had riches she didn’t have any

Cosette her child was given away

With the Thenardier family Cosette did stay

For 5 years the child was bullied and neglected

Fantine’s wish was for her to be loved, protected

Now as a factory worker Fantine was employed

Determined her pride would not be distroyed

The Thenardiers were greedy, demanded to be paid

“Cosette is ill” they’d lie, Fantine was afraid

In a factory she slaved to earn money to survive

And to paid for Cosette to live and thrive

A private letter of hers was snatched away

By other workers who got her dismissed that day

Her child was illegitimate born out-of-wedlock

And so Fantine’s income abruptly did stop

Fantine felt unloved and forgotten upon a shelf

Desperately selling her locket, hair and eventually herself

Joining the whores she felt disgraced

With her cruel, hard fate she was faced

A customer attacked her, with hatred and spite

She was nearly arrested as she retaliated that night

Jean-Valjean had dismissed her without knowing her tale

As he saw her deep despair his face turned pale

He vowed to find her child as some recompense

Sent her to hospital where treatment would commence

Alas for Fantine it was too late, she grew weaker for sure

Praying for little Cosette to be near her once more

She lay dying Valjean promised to raise Cosette as his own

Protected her from the years of hardship which Fantine had known

It was a way for him to make amends to the unfortunate Fantine

If only he had known her awful suffering, if only he’d seen

She smiled a last smile now with hope, closed her eyes and sadly died.

Fantine breathed her last breath that day with Valjean by her side

Choices (A Poem)

I don’t know where I’m going or where I really belong

I need to persevere and keep on going strong

Wherever my path may take me I’m willing to make a change

although this sometimes frightens me ,appearing rather strange

I haven’t made all the right choices who knows where my road will go

I should have listened to my conscience, followed what my heart told me so

One day I will find my feet

and hope to make the right ends meet

These next couple of months will be the ultimate test

I must not crack, try my absolute best

If  I fail I will not crumble

I’ll see it as a pathway stumble

I’ll pick myself up off the floor

make some changes, open a new door

nothing in this life is wasted at all

as one can always recover after a fall
